Chris Brown is currently on tour and a bunch of photos from the meet-and-greets have been making the rounds on social media. The lameness of actually still supporting Chris Brown, buying tickets to see his show and then actually going aside, why the hell would you want evidence of that sh*t to live on the Internet forever? I need Black women to stand up and let go of this clown for good.
Oh, and of course he’s gloating publicly about the fact that based on these sold-out shows he’s clearly not canceled. Thanks a lot, weirdos.
White people are being absolutely unhinged about the WNBA’s Caitlyn Clark not going to the Olympics. If you need a refresher on what all the drama is about, read here. White sports media is having a meltdown, while her fans are admitting she may not be ready but insisting she go anyway because of the publicity she would bring to the league. There is so much insidious shit happening here, including the ways that Black players are being demonized to uplift Clark, and the way she’s allowed herself to become a Republican show pony, as both Black and white conservatives parade her as an example of victimhood/discrimination in the league.
Two more people have accused world renowned artist Kehinde Wiley of sexual assault and as more stories come out, my heart hurts for any vulnerable queer men who have been in his orbit. The details of their allegations are horrifying and he continues to deny them.
People are also being SUPER weird about new photos of Rihanna’s natural hair, but more on that in Thursday’s newsletter. In the mean time, here’s my immediate hot take below:
Kim K is once again wearing other people’s clothes, and this time it’s Janet Jackson’s outfit from the 1993 If music video. I’m honestly not a fashion purist so I’m not as upset as most people have been about this and the whole Marylyn Monroe dress thing, I just think it’s weird. Because what do you mean you showed up to my concert in my 30-year-old outfit so you could wear it in front of me? Let me know if I’m overthinking this but for someone whose entire thing has been stealing from Black women and appropriating Black culture, if I were Janet I’d be like … what is the idea here?
Uhhh apparently people have been scoring fake Ozempic for months?? This is objectively not good, but also raises a lot of questions about just how predatory the industry around fatphobia has become.
Nick Cannon “wants to give all 11 of his kids the “opportunity to connect” with Him on Father's Day, and honestly the jokes write themselves. Great job, Nick, nothing from me here.
According to leaked footage and a lot of subliminal
annoying afposts, fans of the Real Housewives of Atlanta heard this week that Kenya Moore may or may not have perpetrated revenge porn against one of her new castmates. Now Kenya may be a foul spirit, but I doubt she’d be that stupid… What do we think?J-Lo is not having a good year. Her big movie about herself flopped,
to absolutely no one’s surprise; her marriage to Ben Affleck is reportedly ending, they’re selling the house and now she has to cancel her upcoming arena tour due to bad ticket sales. This sucks. At the same time, there’s a “why does everyone hate J-Lo all of a sudden?” conversation happening on social media among people who I’m assuming are simply too young to remember the real answer to that question. But as the Hollywood Reporter’s Mesfin Fekadu gets right, there’s a reason why people don’t like her right now. She is in her fully self-absorbed, camp celebrity era and I think aside from her historical insufferable-ness, people are really responding to this new archetype with hostility because frankly the world is on fire and nobody has time for that crap right now. She’s morphed into a stereotype that is both easy to make fun of and hard to empathize with and that, coupled with all the other stuff from the past, means that she’s the last thing most people truly care about and the first thing they can easily direct their frustration at.
Bastard of the week
I am SO tired of talking about 50 Cent. But when he openly dismissed Power actor Michael Rainy Jr.’s very public experience of sexual assault, I knew he had to be this week’s biggest bastard. This is the person who wants to be trusted to make a documentary about a sexual predator?? Send the flood and send it right now.
