Housewives Corner: Happy Anniversary, Erin (?) (RHONY S14 E6)
BRYNN WHAT ARE YOU DOING??
Today’s newsletter is the very first edition of a new section of the newsletter called “Housewives Corner.” I know not everyone is a Real Housewives fan, so if you’d rather not receive the weekly Housewives Corner emails, here’s how you can opt out:
Go to your Substack profile (top right corner).
Go to “account settings.” There, you’ll see a list of all your subscriptions. It should look like the image below.
Click on If I Speak….
Scroll down to “notifications” and de-select “Housewives Corner”.
No need to save these settings, just exit out and you should be good to go. You should now get the weekly newsletter, but no housewives stuff. You can always opt back in using the same steps if you change your mind!
Last night’s episode opens with Ubah chatting with Jacob the Jeweller (yes THAT Jacob the Jeweller), but before I could get carried away imagining what she was about to splurge on, we find out that she’s at Jacob and Co. to gift Erin with some borrowed pieces for her anniversary party. (Now that’s an anniversary gift)
Meanwhile across town, Brynn and Jessel are picking out outfits and talking about the fact that Erin’s anniversary invite included a list of sponsors at the bottom. I really hope we get to hear more about that at some point this season because what the hell?
And just when I thought I couldn’t love Jenna Lyons more, this week she’s on Zoom with Canadian actress and Schitt’s Creek star Emily Hampshire about an interior design project she’s helping her with (is there anything Jenna can’t do?). My sapphic dreams came true when Jenna shared she and Emily actually met because they were matched up to date. The love connection didn’t workout but lucky for us, we’re left with a friendship blessed from the lesbian gods.
Erin and Abe’s anniversary dinner was actually really sweet and I love that he upgraded her ring for their 10-year celebration. And baby that was a ROCK.
Back at Sai’s pristine brownstone (seriously how does she live in so much WHITE), David remains the sole voice of reason as he weighs in on again on the drama between Erin and Jessel. Yes, Jessel is being a bit precious about being called a princess, and crying in that circumstance is completely unhinged LMAO. BUT, I do have to say they ribbing about Jessel’s sex drought is beginning to feel a teensy bit mean-spirited. I don’t think the girls intend to be malicious, but her twins can’t even talk yet like damn, BE NICE!
Like David said, she’s juggling a lot right now and probably very sensitive.
Next, it’s time for Erin and Abe’s anniversary party in a massive old bank building with terrible acoustics. Of course, Erin has a bodyguard from Jacob and Co. to follow her around and guard the jewelry she’s borrowed.
Now, for the main event. Brynn, hitting on everything in sight and making really crude but hysterical comments about the sponsored party having a bah-mitzvah vibe is truly the moment. Things do devolve into the inappropriate when she repeatedly suggests that Abe and Erin’s marriage isn’t real because they didn’t take any vows the first time around, and practically threatens to disrupt the entire thing.
“Once you’re ready to get a divorce, I’m single” ???
Brynn. Babe. I know you did not just try to proposition this man at his own 10-year anniversary party?
I ADORE Brynn but I’m starting to feel like she’s playing a character. Her fun-girl energy is the most interesting thing about the season as it stands, but sometimes it feels like she’s putting it on because she either wants to seem more interesting and give as much as she can while she’s on camera (very Latoya from RHOA vibes). It’s either that, or she’s dealing with a lot and uses the antics as a way to distract from conversations she finds difficult or even just living in her own head.
Final thoughts
I loved how empathetic and kind Sai and Jessel were about Jenna’s breakup. It was also really great to see Jenna open up, and also have the conversation about closeted-open dynamics and what it means to navigate the complexities of certain relationships.
Okay, I finally see it for Jessel the way everyone on Twitter has been trying to make her happen. The girl is truly clueless and unafraid of the chaos that inevitably follows every time she opens her mouth, and her and Pavit are comedy gold. I really hope they figure out the sex thing.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a party if Sai wasn’t bitching about the food. This time the around-the-way girl fled the scene and headed for NOBU because apparently there was yet again no food at an Erin event. Is Sai doing too much or does Erin need to stop hosting?
Candidates for best one-liners of the week:
“It’s easier to say yes” - Brynn on why she keeps accepting proposals from men she doesn’t want.
“It’s like a coachella lineup” - Brynn on Erin and Abe’s anniversary invitation.
“62k for what? coloring?” - Pavit on the twins’ private school tuition.
“Uhhh i’m fine with staying home” David on missing Erin and Abe’s party.
“I’m not into training” - Jenna on having a threesome with Jessel and Pavit.
